Recess: The Parenting App

The original flow asked users to prove themselves before the app gave them anything worth staying for. I restructured onboarding around a simple principle: show the value first, then ask for the commitment. We saw meaningful reduction in funnel drop-off and improved activation for new users.

As the founding designer, I also established the brand identity and a lightweight photography style guide. It feels warm and credible with enough character to stand apart without tipping into cute or juvenile.

More about me

I’m a designer & product leader with more than a decade of experience designing and leading teams. I live and work in DC, though I spent most of my career in NYC working in tech and media (and doing a lot of karaoke).

I’ve worked across a wide range of teams and products, but the common thread has been making sense of messy problems and creating space for people to do their best work. I work with early-stage teams in a fractional capacity as Head of Design.
